weeHouse grows up

weeHouse 1

The Minneapolis Star Tribute has an interesting look at the success of the weeHouse since the first one was built in 2003:

The seductively simple one-room box with floor-to-ceiling windows has become a prefab icon, earning spreads in Dwell, Metropolis and the New York Times.

“It happened to be the first of the latest wave of prefab,” said Geoffrey Warner, who owns St. Paul-based Alchemy.

Four years later a dozen weeHouses and cleverly named not-so-weeHouses have cropped up in rural sites from Marfa, Texas, to Missoula, Mont., from the Poconos to the California coast.
