Many buyers of modern prefab homes purchase them because of the fact that they deliver sustainable, modern architecture and the ease and convenience of a home that is easily constructed (if not assembled prior to delivery). Paul and Scott Stankey, the people behind hive Modular, built the rustic reuse cabin over the course of 9 years at a total cost of $15,000. One of the containers is used for sleeping while the other doubles as a kitchen and storage room. Stankey claims, according to ReadyMade Magazine, that he hopes to eventually turn the design into a prefab cabin available for purchase through hive Modular.

Cool concept, but it looks frickin’ freezing. Where’s the insulation? I wonder how much it would cost to make the project energy efficient.

I would hope that given the experience of the builders (in addition to the amount of time spent in construction), that insulation was properly taken care of. I’ll be sure to post if anything else about this project (or properly insulating containers) comes up.
