Frank Gehry’s design for this year’s Serpentine Gallery Pavilion has just opened in London’s Hyde Park. The design is Gehry’s first to be built in the UK. The structure consists of massive prefabricated wood, steel and glass sections that together serve as a beautiful tempoarary outdoor space for the museum’s summer events.

It seems that the modern prefab movement has become a symbol of international goodwill. The Ikea Boklok development outside of Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK was recently visited by the Swedish ambassador.

Four years ago, Channel4’s programme Grand Designs highlighted the Huf Haus in an excellent episode where an elderly couple demolished their 1956 custom home in order to build a new German, prefabricated home: a customised Huf Haus. Grand Designs recently re-aired the episode with an update, showing the home four years later and discussing it with the owners. If you are in the UK, we highly recommend trying to track down the episode.
